***INSTRUCTIONS***
First, you should understand that Stud finders dont really find studs, they find the metal objects--nails or screws--that are embedded in the studs, SO you will know where the Stud is. A mistake often made by first-time users is to swipe a section of wall (left to right) without finding a stud, and then, wrongly concluding that theres something wrong with the device. The problem isn’t the studfinder, it’s that you may be swiping an area where there are no nails or screws.
The simple technique that we recommend at Studfinder Professional is to hold the iPhone flat against the surface, then press CALIBRATE and then begin a slow, left-to right swiping motion (approximately three feet to four feet).
If you do have an unsuccessful swipe, simply go back to your starting point--raise the Studfinder Professional six-ten inches higher--hit “recalibrate,”-- and start a second three to four foot swipe.
The key--until you locate a stud--is to keep going back to your starting point and raising your studfinder about six inches ("raising it up One iPhone length") and swiping again until you locate a nailed area of a stud. Remember to recalibrate before every swipe ("SLIDE").
